Monique’s 22 Days Success Story

22 Days Nutrition: Tell us about yourself and why you chose to try a 22 Days Vegan Challenge.

Monique L.: I am single, no kids but I do have a dog. I work full time as an Operations Manager for the #1 shoe and apparel company in the world. Currently, I live in Memphis but born and raised in Dallas, TX. My life can be extremely busy with the demands of the career. I have always struggled with my weight, up and down, which I wanted to balance out naturally and I felt The 22-Day Revolution would help me with that. In conjunction with weight loss, I was looking at the long-term health benefits such as lower blood pressure and diabetes risk, as well as improved mental health and clarity. I tried a vegan lifestyle once before when Beyoncé first announced she did it for 22 days, and I loved the way my body felt when I completed the challenge, however I didn’t maintain the lifestyle. I was happy to hear and discover there was a book that gave recipes, day to day steps and motivation, which has helped me be successful and make this a lifestyle change long term.

22DN: How has following a 22 Days Vegan Challenge impacted your life?

ML: The 22-Day Revolution has impacted my life tremendously! I find myself happier, stress free, better sleep, increased energy, and it has helped me be more conscious of what I eat and portion sizes.

22DN: What health improvements have you experiences since your 22 Days Vegan Challenge?

ML: During my 22-Day Revolution, I lost 13 pounds and have seen a major improvement with the lowering of my blood pressure. High blood pressure runs in my family and I was recently placed back on blood pressure medication due to it consistently hovering around 142/106 (no meds) and 136/95 (with meds). When I went for my check-up during my last week of my 22-Day Revolution, my blood pressure was 127/73! In conjunction with my blood pressure decreasing I, as well as those who are around me daily, noticed a huge difference in my mental clarity, stress management, overall happiness, clearer/tighter skin, and increased energy levels.

22DN: What words of encouragement do you have for others who are getting started or are considering a 22 Days Vegan Challenge?

ML: Really know “WHY” you are doing this and consistently remind yourself of that when times get challenging. For instance, yes of course I wanted to lose weight, however I had to keep telling myself this is for my overall long term health and a happier me. There were a few days when I didn’t see any weight loss and if I didn’t keep reminding myself of my ultimate goal I would have fallen back into my old ways. Food prep is key!! Take the time to prep your meals daily - it makes a huge difference in how successful you will be. What also helped me stay motivated and focused was my social media. I am a very private person when it comes to posting certain things about my life on social media due to my profession and I just do not prefer everyone to know my business, however, for some reason I decide to post everything on my 22-Day Revolution. To my surprise I had so much support and motivation, which I didn’t expect and it helped me stay focused. I motivated at least 10 people to start the revolution and change their eating habits.
