Emmet’s 22 Days Success Story
When Emmet Dennis joined his wife for a 22 Days Vegan Challenge, they turned to The 22-Day Revolution to help them improve their health. In the process, Emmet successfully lowered his high cholesterol and went down 3 pants sizes!
22 Days Nutrition: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Emmet Dennis: I am a married 50-year-old father of two children (boy – 7; girl 5) living in Fort Lee, NJ. I am a partner in a family-owned and operated manufacturing company based in Long Island, NY. We manufacture natural and organic personal care and beauty products. We’re a fast growing company that prides itself in maintaining a very entrepreneurial environment – translation, we we work a lot! In my role, I also travel quite extensively.
22DN: How did you hear about us?
ED: I first heard about The 22-Day Revolution through a good friend (that also happens to be the publisher of the book - Raymond Garcia). He was an incredible case study and inspiration! We also were extremely proud and impressed by the celebrity (i.e., Jay-Z and Beyoncé) results that were featured in the press.
22DN: Why did you choose to try a 22 Days Vegan Challenge?
ED: It was my wife’s idea to try The 22-Day Revolution. She and our kids spent 7 months in the Philippines (where eating great food is like a sport), so she came back motivated to lose some weight and get healthier. I joined her because I was curious about the impact it might have on me (after seeing what it did for Raymond). Plus, it was a good bonding experience for the family.
22DN: How long have you been following the 22 Days Vegan principles?
ED: I started on May 10 (the Monday after my 50th birthday) of this year and have not looked back since!
22DN: Tell us a little bit about your average day now that you’re following a plant-based diet.
ED: My typical day consists of 1 – 2 cups of coffee with coconut or soy milk and oatmeal for breakfast. Some sort of salad, with beans and fruit for lunch and dinner is often a wild card. When I’m traveling it could be vegan restaurant options and when I’m home it could be anything from salad, pasta, soup, etc. I’m especially into guacamole on oatmeal toast!
22DN: How has following a 22 Days Vegan Challenge impacted your life?
ED: The two most dramatic results have been: one, dropping from a 33 waist to a 30 waist AND, two, bringing down my very high cholesterol (that I’ve had issues with for years). My cholesterol went from 260 to 156 (note: the major drop was from 235 to 156 between April to August – right after I started my vegan journey). I don’t think my energy has picked up that much, but I do feel amazing (everyday)! I don’t typically weigh myself, but I think the drop was from 185 to 175.
22DN: What words of encouragement do you have for others who are getting started or are considering a 22 Days Vegan Challenge?
ED: My words of encouragement are that The 22-Day Revolution was the best decision you can ever make for yourself (especially if you have a history of making unhealthy food choices) and for people that love you. I also tell people that it’s actually easier than most people think. My favorite quote to most people is that “no food tastes as good as I feel”, so vegan choices are worth it! I do make a distinction that since doing the 22 Days Vegan Challenge, I don’t consider myself a vegan, I consider myself a person that makes vegan choices. Meaning, I won’t beat myself up if I slip or if I find out that something that I just ate had a little something that wasn’t plant-based. The idea is not to be perfect, the idea is to be happy in your pursuit of excellence.
