5 Tips to Maintain (or Even Lose!) Weight This Holiday Season
Gaining weight seems to go hand in hand with the holidays, but it doesn’t have to. With a few simple tips, you could actually lose weight this year, and be ready to start the New Year on a high note. Here are our top recommendations to keep the holiday pounds away.
Tip 1: Eat Before You Go
Being hungry isn’t fun and will wreak havoc on your willpower. While you might get lucky and find a few healthy options on the food table, the odds are that there will be a lot of unhealthy options as well. If you eat before you attend a party, you’ll be a lot less tempted to dive into the canapes. In a hurry? Blend up a smoothie with 1 scoop of our Plant-Protein Powder. You’ll get 16g of protein to keep you satiated and with the addition of your favorite fruits and veggies, you’ll also get a boost of vitamins and minerals for added energy. Keeping a few snacks in your purse or car is a great idea as well, just in case.
Tip 2: Water!
Water helps you feel great, fills your stomach, regulates your metabolism and prevents thirst. These are all good things, so keep a bottle of water on hand at all times. If you’re getting tired of glass after glass of H2O, purchase an infuser bottle that will let you place cucumbers, oranges, etc., in your drink for a change of pace.
Tip 3: Imbibe Wisely
If party food is the evil queen of holiday weight gain, alcohol is her sister waiting in the wings. No matter what the type of alcohol – wine, beer, or spirits – your body stops everything it’s doing when you drink to metabolize it, which means anything you eat is stored (as fat) for later. Additionally, when you’re drinking, it’s easier to overeat without being aware of it. If you really want to minimize weight gain this holiday season, opt for sparkling water with a wedge of lemon or lime or sip on unsweetened tea.
Tip 4: Maintain Your Routine
Exercising has many benefits, besides burning calories. While the holiday season might be a busy time, it’s the best time to take care of yourself. Don’t abandon your exercise routine – fine-tune it if needed, but keep up all your hard work, even if it means arriving at your office holiday party a little late!
Tip 5: Fill Up On Plants
A plant-based diet is chock full of fiber which helps you feel fuller, longer – a real bonus when you are looking to fill up on healthy food instead of calorie-laden party food.
