Fey's 22 Days Success Story
Sometimes life gets in the way of our healthy living goals. Such was the case for Fey Odusoga of Dallas, Texas. When Fey noticed that she was feeling sluggish, she decided to try something different.
With The 22-Day Revolution, she had the blueprint for exploring the health benefits of a balanced plant-based diet for 22 Days. We had the pleasure of talking with this inspiring woman about her success.
22 Days: Tell us about yourself.
Fey Odusoga: I’m a Business Consultant and Life Coach and I just graduated with my MBA. In addition, I recently started a YouTube Channel called Upfront and Unfiltered that gives me a chance to talk with guests about real issues that we might not normally talk about. In my free time, I love running and I am training for a Half Marathon.
22 Days: What made you choose The 22-Day Revolution?
FO: I heard about it from Beyoncé’s plant-based challenge. Initially, I decided to go vegan/vegetarian because I wanted to eat cleaner. I have hypothyroidism and I started to feel much better once I switched to a plant-based diet.
But I was still feeling sluggish and I was gaining weight. I decided that I needed some guidance for help with what to eat if I wanted to follow a healthy, plant-based diet.
The 22-Day Revolution taught me how to eat a balanced plant-based diet. It pointed me to the right foods that energized me. It also taught me the best portion sizes and how to incorporate a more balanced mix of protein, healthy carbohydrates and vegetables.
I’ve been following the 22 Days principles since August 2017 and I feel great!
22 Days: Tell us a little bit about your average day.
FO: Every day, I aim to eat at least 3 cups of vegetables. Here are my favorite recipes for each meal of the day:
Breakfast Smoothie: Blend 1 cup of blueberries, 1 cup of kale, ¼ cup chia, pinch of spirulina, ice and ¼ cup water or coconut water. If I don’t have a smoothie, I opt for ½ cup of oatmeal with blueberries.
Snack (if I feel I need it): Half small banana with 1 tablespoon of almond butter.
Lunch: My quinoa “fried rice”; it’s sautéed veggies with quinoa and my favorite spices.
Dinner: Refried Lentils: Cook lentils in a skillet with seasonings, add bell pepper and onions plus ½ cup of sweet potatoes or butternut squash. It’s delicious!
Exercise is also an important component of my day. I am up at 5 AM to run, practice yoga or cross train.
22 Days: How has following a 22-Day Revolution impacted your life?
FO: More mental clarity. The food I was eating before was spiking my glycemic index. Now that I have a proper balance, I feel so much better.
And I sleep so much better! I used to use melatonin to help me sleep and I don’t need it. I don’t get sleepy in the afternoon. I sleep through the night and feel refreshed. I don’t feel groggy.
Inflammation in my body has gone down a lot. My skin looks phenomenal.
I used to run 3 miles a day and it was hard on me. I felt tired, not energized. My running has improved since I switched to a healthy plant-based diet.
Cutting out the meat and replacing that with more vegetables helps me feel better. I feel fuller with more vegetables instead of filling up on meat.
22 Days: What health improvements have you seen?
FO: I lost 19 pounds in 22 Days! My stress levels are down and I feel lighter.
22 Days: What words of encouragement do you have for others who are getting started?
FO: If I can do it, you can do it. Just stick with it! The first two days can be difficult. It can be frustrating because you are adjusting to a new lifestyle.
After a while, your body gets used to it and you’ll start to feel like it’s a lot of food. Once you see the results, you’ll want to stick to it. I encourage everyone to eat like this – I want my future kids to eat this way!
I encourage all people, but especially women, to try this way of eating. You’ll see an improvement in your body, mind and even your menstrual cycle.
Just remember why you’re doing this. It’s for your health!
22 Days: Anything else you’d like to share?
FO: I’m a picky eater and I always had a difficult time eating a lot of vegetables. It seemed scary when I thought about switching to this way of eating. But when I got into reading the book, I realized that I could do it.
I want to thank Marco for sharing this way of eating.
Thank you Fey for sharing your story with us! We wish you all the best of health!
